Presidential visit to India

Mr Hakon Skulason went on behalf of Kaldara Green Energy and Green Energy Group AS as a part of the business delegation of the president of Iceland to India 11-17 January 2010. The trip started in Mumbai where the delegation met with Indian companies in the area.

The business delegation then traveled with the president to New Delhi to be present while he received the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding. The award is presented "for their outstanding contribution to the promotion of international understanding, goodwill and friendship among peoples of the world".

Hakon Skulason held a presentation on the KAPS geothermal power plants in the forum on renewable energy and cooperation between Iceland and India that was hosted by Host: H.E. Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Minister for New and Renewable Energy.

Other speakers from Iceland were:

  • Dr. Guðni A. Johannesson, Director General, National Energy Authority in Iceland
  • Mr. Grímur Björnsson, Geophysicist, Senior Scientist, Reykjavik Geothermal (On Geothermal globally with special reference to India)
The delegation travelled to Bangalore for their final program where the president visited Kaldara and Green Energy Group partner Hindustan Turbo machinery to look more closely at the cooperation between Iceland, India and Norway in manufacturing small geothermal power plants KAPS.

In his speech at Hindustan he stressed that it was not if the solution was a good one but how would we take care of the huge demand that will come our way.
